Description

The aging population throughout the world is growing. People are living into more advanced ages which present unique psychosocial challenges. While in the past it was challenging to engage the older population in therapy, currently older adults are open to it, with many actively seeking it. With this change, it is imperative for mental health professionals to be knowledgeable and responsive to these unique needs. Additionally more younger clients who are in psychotherapy are involved with caring for an older adult in their life. In this talk we will explore issues relating to role reversal and the many layers of grief and loss that are experienced both by the older adult and family members.
