This workshop will examine the nuances of "rupture and repair" that will often in occur when therapists make clinical faux pas or therapeutic blunders. Via role play and group discussion, this experiential workshop will examine the transference/countertransference matrix and other issues occurring in the treatment situation and how clinical and therapeutic growth can be obtained from "learning from our mistakes".
This interactive and experiential presentation will illustrate via the role play of clinical vignettes some significant challenges that therapists face daily in their offices. Examples of this will include vignettes that portray issues with disclosure, lack of boundaries, transference/countertransference , mistaken identities , misattunement etc.
The transference/countertransference matrix and reactions to clinical challenges and impasses will be explored and examined with the participation of the audience.
Current Research discusses Attachment theory, the neurobiology of treatment and the "rupture and repair" process that occurs in the treatment situation. What is the therapeutic growth that can be obtained from a therapist blunder? This will be explored via role play wherein transference/countertransference issues and other clinical issues will be discussed and therapeutic implications for treatment will be explored.
This workshop is for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced. No matter how experienced, as therapists, we must continue to learn and grow from our mistakes!
